How it Works for Schools

2020 On-site can serve colleges and universities just as it serves companies. We also have a program that brings high-end vision care to local high schools, because we know that if children can't see clearly, they can't possibly excel in the classroom. So in 2015, we initiated our first program with the Boston Public Schools to see if convenient, high-quality, and affordable vision care was needed among students. The results were inspiring! Then, to kick off 2020 (our namesake year!), we launched "Vision for Boston," where we provided free vision screenings, eye exams, and eyewear to 10,000+ underprivileged children in the month of January alone (at no cost to the students or their families). For some of these students, our visit was their very first eye exam!

In 2016, we launched a formal partnership with the Boston Public Schools with a mission to serve all of their high schools on a continuing basis. Our impact so far:

  • More than 30 Boston Public Schools visited
  • At least 30 on-site visits per year
  • Over 1,000 students seen
  • 500+ pairs of glasses donated

Now also serving Atlanta Public Schools!

In March 2017, 2020 announced that it had also formed a partnership with Atlanta Public Schools to bring on-site eye exams to students. To get a sense of how well it's going, enjoy this tweet from the Assistant Principal of Forrest Hill Academy:

In 2020, we expanded our partnership with Boston Public Schools through “Vision for Boston,” our largest philanthropy initiative to-date. In the month of January, we:

  • Made 22 full-day visits to schools
  • Provided access to free vision screenings, eye exams, and eyewear to 10,000+ underprivileged children
  • Dispensed 400+ glasses to students
For many of these students, our visit marked their very first eye exam.

"We would like to say thank you to 2020 for providing full vision screenings and glasses to our students. We have a large immigrant and urban population and access to vision care is needed but not accessible. Many of these students have just arrived to the US or due to insurance issues could not get this service. Due to the numerous barriers, some students struggled academically because of poor vision. Then came 2020 and many families thought this opportunity was too good to be true. Thank you for treating our students with dignity when they stepped onto your van speaking very little English. Thank you for giving them options for various frames. Thank you for all you do."
