INFECTION CONTROL

For Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Patient Care

Clinical Staff Training and Preparation

  1. All clinical staff are required to undergo training on infection control techniques specific to cystic fibrosis
  2. All clinical staff are vaccinated for COVID-19
  3. All clinical staff are checked for wellness daily. This includes a temperature check and a COVID-19 screening test. Any staff member who has viral symptoms, a COVID-19 diagnosis, or a known COVID-19 exposure is not permitted to see any patients. In order to return to work, they must have no viral symptoms and have a negative COVID-19 result
  4. All patients are also checked at each encounter for viral symptoms, COVID-19 diagnosis or exposure, and temperature. Any patient who fails the screening will not be allowed on board the MVC.
Mobile Vision Clinic (MVC) Infection Control Procedures
  1. Only 1 CF patient is permitted on board at a time. Anyone accompanying the patient must be from the same household. Additional CF patients are permitted on board if they are all from the same household.
  2. Mask wear is mandatory for anyone on board the mobile vision clinic during patient care hours. Patients who do not have a mask will be provided one by the clinical manager.
  3. Clinical staff on board should maintain a social distance of at least 6 feet from the patient where possible. Plexiglass barriers may be used for additional protection.
  4. Use of a hospital-grade HEPA filtration system that provides 48 air changes per hour (Cystic Fibrosis Foundation recommends 12 per hour for airborne transmission prevention)
  5. All high touch areas (including seats, doorknobs, floors, equipment, computers, etc.) are wiped down with EPA approved disinfectant before and after every patient encounter
  6. All handles, including doorknobs and sink handles, are to be handled by clinical staff only.
  7. Clinical staff wear disposable gowns and gloves, N-95 respirators, and goggles with each patient encounter.
  8. Frequent hand sanitization is encouraged for all clinical staff members especially before and after donning personal protective equipment, between testing, and during patient care. Hand sanitizer will be readily accessible to all patients and caregivers.
  9. No food or drink is permitted on board the mobile vision clinic during patient care hours
